Walker Road Barn Fire

On Friday, April 8, 2022 at 12:54 AM the Margaretville Fire Department, along with the Halcottsville Fire Department under pre-planned mutual aid, was dispatched by Delaware County 911 to a working structure fire in the 700 block of Walker Road, Town of Middletown.

Mutual aid was immediately summoned for the Arkville and Roxbury Fire Departments for a full response to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully engulfed barn fire. Water supply was established with a tanker shuttle, and due to the heavy rain earlier that day, firefighters were able to dam up water that was flowing in the roadside ditch and pump a significant amount of water to fight the fire.

The barn was a total loss. The barn housed several hundred chickens, goats, pigs and two dogs, which all perished in the fire.

Approximately 25 firefighters were on the scene until 3:30 AM. All units were back in service by 4:00 AM. The Arena Fire Department provided standby coverage at the Margaretville fire station, and the Fleischmanns Fire Department stood by at Arkville.

The Margaretville Fire Department would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the mutual aid departments that assisted, Delaware County Sheriffs Office, NYSEG, and last but not least, Gerster’s Triple E towing who came to our assistance on the scene.
