On January 9, 2022, at 5:37 PM, the Margaretville Fire Department, along with the Halcottsville Fire Department under pre-planned mutual aid, responded to a report of a structure fire at 102 Rider Hollow Rd in the Town of Hardenburgh, Ulster County. The Arkville and Fleischmanns fire departments were immediately called under mutual aid.

On arrival, the first units on scene found a two-story home fully involved in fire. The residence was only accessible by a very narrow bridge, which made it very difficult to attack the fire. Hose lines had to be stretched by hand across the bridge to get water on the fire.

About 30 firefighters, from all responding departments, remained on the scene for approximately four hours. Ulster County Cause and Origin also responded to assist with the investigation.

At this time the cause of the fire has not been determined. No one was at the residence at the time of the fire. The structure was a total loss.

The Arena Fire Department stood by at the Margaretville Fire station while units were out at the scene.

The Margaretville Fire Department would like to sincerely thank all mutual aid fire departments that responded, the New York State Police, Delaware County 911, the Ulster County Cause and Origin team, and NYSEG for their assistance.
